Issue 2 (54) of “The Quarterly Journal of Saint Philaret’s Institute” is devoted to the issues of mission and catechesis. The Orthodox Missiology section begins with an article by N. V. Kartasheva, in which the significance of the personal approach in the study of the history of Russian Orthodox missionary work is revealed through the prism of the missionary diaries of St. Nicholas of Japan. The article by O. A. Orlova explores the process of formation and changes in the content of the concepts of “external” and “internal” missions in the synodal period. In the article by M. S. Alekseeva and S. V. Vasilyeva, the concept of the "missionary field" is analyzed by using theological, historical and sociological approaches; it gives an overview of the missionary field of modern Buryatia.
The Missiology and the History of Mission in Catholicism and Protestantism section opens with an article by G. Colzani, which examines the relationship between mission and the revelation of the Divine life, mission and the Church, as well as mission and theology, based on the latest documents of the Catholic Church and scientific research in the field of mission. The article by M. A. Verkhovskaya is devoted to the history, content and transformation of the concept of “new evangelization” in the teaching of the Catholic Church. The article by T. V. Skrabanskaya is devoted to the little-studied issue of Protestant missionary activity in Iran, which is considered in the context of social and political changes in the country in the second half of the 20th — early 21st centuries.
The History of Catechesis in the Early Church section includes an article by O.I. Sidorova, which explores the structure and main content of Tertullian’s catechetical preaching, and an article by S. S. Puchkova on the theology of freedom by Theodore of Mopsuestia.
The Translation of Primary Sources section presents the translation of five Easter sermons by St. Augustine done by P. S. Ozersky, edited by S. A. Stepantsov.
The Theological Understanding of the Diversity of Religious Life section contains an article by A. M. Prilutskii, which examines the worldview attitudes of adherents of eschatological religious subcultures.
The Reviews and Abstracts section presents two reviews: G. G. Yastrebov on the book: Hengel M., Schwemer A. M. “The Earliest Church and the Jewish Christianity” (Moscow: BBI, 2023); G. M. Zapalsky on the book: Gaidenko P. I. Monasticism of Ancient Rus’: forms, everyday life, legal status (Moscow: Quadriga, 2024).
