Issue 3 (55) of the “The Quarterly Journal of Saint Philaret’s Institute” opens with the section Theoretical Theology. The first article in the section, authored by A. P. Patrakova and С. V. Ciobanu, is devoted to understanding the concepts of “transparency” and “opacity”, used as the author’s antithesis in the works of the Romanian theologian, priest Dumitru Stăniloae. The article by D. N. Lebedev examines the early works of the German theologian and Lutheran pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer on issues of Christian ethics. The article by K. M. Antonov provides an analysis of the image of the Grand Inquisitor in the church journalism of N. A. Berdyaev. The essay by Professor G. Pattison, dedicated to N. A. Berdyaev’s views on man and the Church, is published in English in the original. In the article by Fr. Georgy Safoklov, the philosophical ideas of Fr. Pavel Florensky and Fr. Sergius Bulgakov are proposed as the basis for constructing a concept of the relationship between the church and the state in the post-secular era. The Publication of Sources subsection presents the text of the speech by Fr. Sergius Bulgakov on the issue of “partial intercommunion”, prepared for publication by Yu. N. Antipina.

The History of the Russian Orthodox Church section begins with an article by N. V. Alekseeva, which examines the forms of collective and personal penitential vow practice of the Northern Russian population in the second half of the 19th — early 20th centuries. The article by Fr. Petr Mangilev is dedicated to the history of Old Believer cathedrals and their role in the life of Ural Old Believer communities in the second half of the 19th — first quarter of the 20th centuries. The article by G. G. Sheyanov examines the activities of the Josephite catacomb community in Arkhangelsk in 1933–1935. The article by E. V. Pashchenko examines the issues of organizing church life among Russian emigrants in Prague, Bratislava and Brno in the 1920s.

The Reviews and Abstracts section presents the third review article based on the materials of the seminars “Dialogue of Physicists and Theologians” (St. Philaret Institute, 2013–2023), prepared by G. V. Shpatakovskaya; review of the round table “‘The Life of Jesus’ by David Strauss in Alexander Ivanov’s ‘Biblical Sketches’: Mythological Approach or Apology of Christ” St. Philaret Institute, February 20, 2025), prepared by A. Yu. Garbuznyak; review by K. P. Obozny of the book by E. Yu. Nuikina “Archival and investigative cases against the clergy of the Russian Orthodox Church (1917–1930s): a source study” (Moscow: Institute of Slavic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences; St. Petersburg: Nestor-istoriya, 2024); review by A. A. Kostryukov of the book “On the paths of trials and hope: Memories of Archpriest Georgy Taylov: 1944–1961” (St. Philaret Institute, 2024).
