Issue 2 (50) of the journal ‘Bulletin of the St. Philaret Institute’ opens with the section Orthodox Brotherhoods. To the 160th anniversary of the law: “On the Rules for the Establishment of Orthodox Church Brotherhoods”. The article by E. O. Nepoklonova reveals the originality of the motif of fraternal unity in the theological, journalistic and poetic legacy of A. S. Khomyakov and discloses different origins of the image and idea of brotherhood in the founder of Slavophilism. In the article by A. Y. Polunov the activity of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society is discussed in the context of the church-society movement of the 1880s — early 1900s. The article by E. Y. Litvinenko and Y. V. Balakshina is devoted to the experience of St. Tikhon’s (Bellavin) interaction with Orthodox brotherhoods in the Aleutian and North American diocese, which he headed from 1898 to 1907, as well as to the history of the emergence of Orthodox brotherhoods in North America. The article by V. G. Trofimenko, prepared in co-authorship with Y. V. Balakshina, is devoted to the history of the Voskresensky Brotherhood which functioned in Arkhangelsk between 1900 and 1917. The activities of the brotherhood are analysed on the basis of reports written by Fr. Mikhail Popov, the founder and leader of the brotherhood. The article by A. V. Kinstler examines the missionary activities of the Orthodox Peter and Paul brotherhood in Germany between 1948 and early 1950, its history and relations with the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad. The article by D. S. Gasak and O. N. Kolomytseva is devoted to the experience of identifying elders in such informal associations of the faithful in the Russian Orthodox Church as communities and brotherhoods during the Soviet persecution from 1917 to 1943.

The Patristics section is presented by an article written by A. M. Pentkovsky, which examines the composition and sources of the Venetian “Philokalia” of 1782, as well as the use of the texts contained therein in the translation and editorial activities of Rev. Paisii Velichkovsky.

The Jubilee Dates section in honour of the 300th anniversary of I. Kant’s birth publishes an article by E. A. Polyakova “Love for one’s neighbour in the moral philosophy of Immanuel Kant”.

The Source Translation section presents a translation of a sermon (Serm. 56), one of the four sermons of Blessed Augustine devoted to the interpretation of the Lord’s Prayer (translation, preface and commentary by P. S. Ozersky; ed. by S. A. Stepantsov).
