The subject of this publication is a previously unpublished document from the personal archive of archpriest Georgy Ivakin-Trevogin, a confessor of faith, cleric of the Tashkent and Central Asian diocese in the period from 1955 to 1980, who began his spiritual journey in the community of the St. Righteous Alexis Mechev and the Hieromartyr Sergiy Mechev. Fr. George had the experience of worship in the church on Maroseika, and therefore, celebrating the Eucharist as a presbyter, he strove to ensure that the divine service was performed unanimously and meaningfully by the entire church assembly, headed by the Primate and with the participation of all the faithful.
The document entitled “Prayers of the Eucharist” testifies not only to the author’s attitude to the administration of this church sacrament, but also continues the pre-revolutionary tradition of translating the anaphora into Russian, aimed at clarifying the meaning of the divine service for those praying. The desire to see the members of the church assembly not just pious parishioners but as co-servants of the primate can be attributed to the specific experience that the worshippers gained during the period of persecution. Fr. George’s pastoral recommendations allow us to reconstruct to some extent the liturgical features of the “Mechev” tradition of congregation prayer and testify to the genuine Eucharistic revival that took place in the 1950s in the Tashkent diocese.
