Cathechesis in the Tradition of the Holy Fathers
St. Philaret’s Christian Orthodox Institute is holding another catechesis conference in the annual series exploring a revival and creative application in today’s church life of the catechesis tradition established by the Holy Fathers. The conference is entitled ‘Catechesis in the Tradition of the Holy Fathers. Kerygmatic Preaching About Christ to 1st and 2nd Stage Catechumens’. While all those interested in the subject are welcome to participate, the conference would be particularly relevant for Christian Orthodox clergy and lay people directly involved in catechesis.
The conference agenda will feature the following discussion points:
- What does ‘coming to believe’ in Christ mean for a catechumen?
- The meaning of ‘meeting Christ’ for a catechumen: the dangers of psychologising, theological abstractions, reducing involvement to participation to sacraments.
- What should bearing witness to Christ look like when directed at catechumens?
